A delightful Humbug encounter on route to a party: at 2130 hours, driving just north of Roundhill Farm on Kimblewick Road (Great and Little Kimble District at SP 813 080), a BADGER stepped out on to a very icy road and stumbled along 15 feet in front of my car. I pulled up behind him, made light pishing sounds, then threw out part of one of the Christmas puddings I had in my lunch box. Amazingly, the Badger stood its ground in the road and came back to investigate his 'prize' and then started noisily nuzzling into it and separating what appeared to be cherries and sultanas. I sat quietly watching him for about ten minutes before he suddenly became alert and ran a few more yards along the lane and fled through a gap in the bank and disappeared into a field.
Then, much later on, and driving into Chesham Bois at 0250 hours (Sunday), a fabulous TAWNY OWL was perched just above Copperkins Lane at SU 952 997, looking down on another glistening ice-covered road, and affording Carmel and I astounding views.
