Three JACK SNIPES were showing very well in the first 50 yards of frozen stream south of the road at East Hyde, with a further bird seen (not by me) much farther down. This really is an excellent opportunity to see and study what is normally a difficult bird to get good views of. Mike Ilett obtained this image above.
There were also 4 COMMON SNIPES taking advantage of the flowing water in the stream.
Also 30 Gadwalls, 2 Common Teal and 4 Little Grebe
In Wardown Park (Luton), 5 adult WHOOPER SWANS were in attendance
West of Lilley Manor Farm (at TL 104 277), I located my first covey of GREY PARTRIDGE this year (two pairs) but in the rest of the area (from Streatley east), the snow-covered farmland yielded not one bird other than a male Common Pheasant.
A RED KITE was over Hollybush Hill, east of Lilley.
